Those Company's/Businesses That Care
About the Handicap and Those That Don't!
I created this part of
LadyAmp foremost, because there are companies and businesses that go out of
their way to make accessibility to their stores a priority for the disabled and
handicapped.
Secondly, because there are businesses who couldn't care
less if we patron their stores or not. Making sure the disabled or handicap
person can safely reach their doors isn't a major concern for these companies,
and if we can actually 'shop' to buy in their store is an even less concern.
I've separated the two into two different pages. The Good Guys and The Bad Guys.
Visit the Good Guys by clicking on the link at the top of this page.
If you have had a good or bad experience with a store and want to tell someone,
let me know. The public and other disabled and handicap persons should know how
their neighborhood stores feel about us. Who else is better equipped to make our
voice heard then ourselves? I'm not afraid to tell it like it is!! I'll be glad
to add them to our good or bad page links and let them know how far down on the
ladder they really are!! E-Mail

List:
A special thank you to Stella S. of North Carolina:
SouthPoint Mall, Durham,
NC - For a mall that's less than 2 years old, the outside sidewalks are a
disaster! A couple of the sidewalks end at the street with no cutout. A person
in a wheelchair goes round and round an access ramp only to come to a dead-end
at a sidewalk with no cutout!!
Some of the department stores' outside
entrances do not have push-button access to their HUGE doors (must manually open
them if you want to enter).
The wheelchair vehicle parking is VERY
limited for a mall this large, and definitely not enough van accessible parking.
Also, the main mall bathroom has only one handicap accessible stall... not
satisfactory for a mall that wants thousands of customers to shop.
Marsh Grocery
Store, Muncie, IN It's reported they have only 2 electric carts for
the disabled and handicapped, but at most times, one is broken or not charged.
They have one push wheelchair with a basket in front of it. For a city the size
of Muncie, IN (population 52,000), this is unacceptable. When Management was
approached with these concerns, they simply stated 'We're sorry, it's our
policy'. The only good thing about Marsh's policy regarding disabled and
handicapped persons is that they do have excellent parking facilities. They
don't mind you parking there, they just don't want you to enter their store!
Meijer Stores,
Muncie, IN This was experienced by myself. The good thing about this
Meijer is that they have 5 electric carts. The bad thing is many times, arriving
around 9AM in the morning to do our shopping, we found they would have NO
electric carts available. The reason was that none of them were charged! Now
this is a store that is open 24 hours! No one thinks to re-charge the electric
carts during the night so they can be ready for use in the morning? They would
ask us to come back at 1:00pm AFTER the carts were recharged!!!! Meijer is
telling ME when I can shop! After about the 4th time this happened, and after
complaining to Management who didn't really care, he was too busy with other
things to really listen to our complaint, we took our business elsewhere!
(Please know, NOT all Meijer stores are like this one in Muncie, IN. See The
Good Guys list!
Walmart, Wauseon, OH It's reported that this Walmart is horrible
when it comes to their electric carts. They have 4 carts, but at most times only
2 are in working order. Either one is broken or not charged. The carts
themselves are ancient and I can see why they are broken so much. You can
complain to the greeter and they promise to tell 'Management', but nothing
changes! Hey Mr. Walton?????? Are you listening???
Things have gone from
bad
to worse at Mr. Walton's house. Not only do they only have 2 carts....those 2 are
rarely in service! Most of the time the greeter has to tell you "I'm sorry, it's
out for repairs." Those repairs have taken over two months! With the kind of
customer service given at Walmart, I think I could get use to those 'Blue Light
Specials' at K-Mart!!
Sam's Club, Indianoplis, IN We're right back to Mr. Walton! This
Sam's Club has only 1 (one) electric cart it is reported with 1 (one) push
wheelchair with a basket. Mind you, this is a WAREHOUSE!!! And only ONE electric
cart! Need I say more??? Mr. Walton, you SUCK!!!
